The lightning ignited Hoyle Fire was discovered on Thursday Morning, May 2, 2019 south of Arizona State Highway 260 approximately 3 miles southwest of Heber, Arizona. The fire is burning in the rugged terrain of Hoyle Canyon within the 2002 Rodeo-Chediski fire scar. A fire perimeter utilizing existing roads and natural features has been established around the fire. While weather and fuel conditions remain favorable, fire managers will allow this fire to fulfill its natural role in the ecosystem to consume forest debris and return nutrients to the soil while actively keeping the fire within the established perimeter.

Smoke may be present within the community of Heber/Overgaard and along Highway 260 between Milepost 290 and 302. Motorists are advised to drive with caution within the fire area. Individuals sensitive to smoke can learn how to help protect their health by visiting the Coconino County Public Health Services District website at: http://bit.ly/SmokeHealthAwareness
