Blue Ridge Unified School District is located in Southern Navajo County. The Pinetop-Lakeside community is surrounded by the natural beauty of the White Mountains, the Apache/Sitgreaves National Forest and the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation. The town has a population of approximately 4,000 full time residents but expands to about 30,000 in the summer months.
With an elevation of 7,200 feet, the community motto is "Celebrate the Seasons." Temperatures range from the 90's during the summer to the teens during the winter. The winter snowfall and cool summer rains attract visitors from the hotter desert parts of the state. There are many opportunities for outdoor activities such as snow skiing, hiking, camping, hunting, fishing and photography. A winter sports complex, Sunrise Ski Resort, located 30 miles east of Pinetop-Lakeside on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation, attracts skiers from around the southwest as well as internationally with its well developed slopes and facilities.
The Pinetop-Lakeside community is truly an outstanding place to work, live and raise a family.
DISTRICT AT A GLANCE
Blue Ridge Unified School District faculty, staff and administration are dedicated to academic excellence and success for all students. The district serves approximately 2,700 students in programs ranging from preschool through high school. Student enrollment is very stable. The district consists of one Elementary School (PS-3), one Mid
School (4-6), one Junior High School (7-8), and one High School (9-12). The Arizona Department of Education has recognized the Elementary School as an A+ School. The High School is fully accredited by North Central Association. All facilities are located on one 80 acre parcel. The district is geographically the smallest in Navajo County encompassing 65 square miles in size.
Blue Ridge Unified School District is progressive and has solid educational programs in the core areas with support programs for preschool through post high school. In addition to the outstanding academic programs that include Advance Placement classes, the High School vocational and athletic programs are widely recognized as some of the best in the State. The Junior High and High School utilize a four period day. This schedule allows for additional required and elective course offerings for all students as they prepare for their post high school career. The District places a significant emphasis upon school-to-work transition. An Alternative School program is available during the day and evening to meet the needs of "at risk" students.
The District believes that staff and community involvement and support are essential for a successful school system. The District enjoys broad based community support and utilizes a large number of parent volunteers. Each building has an active school council made up of parents, staff, students, patrons and administration.
